2 Chronicles 32:9-15

2 Chronicles 32:9 is part of this passage.
9After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was attacking Lachish, and all his forces were with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying, 10Sennacherib king of Assyria says, “In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem? 11Doesn’t Hezekiah persuade you to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘The LORD our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria’? 12Hasn’t the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall worship before one altar, and you shall burn incense on it’? 13Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand? 14Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand? 15Now therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you nor persuade you in this way. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”

Summary

2 Chronicles 32:9-15: Be strong: with them is flesh; with us is the LORD to fight our battles.

Interpretation

In 2 Chronicles 32:9-15, courage names the foe as flesh and God as the greater Helper. The Chronicler wants us to see the covenant God who searches hearts, keeps His Name at the temple, and deals with kings according to whether they seek Him. Listen to the text: “After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was attacking Lachish, and all his forces were with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at…”

Hezekiah pairs walls with theology: flesh versus Yahweh. People rest on words that rest on God; courage is contagious when true.

Assyria’s siege; Hezekiah’s courage—greater is with us; prayer and deliverance; later pride and testing. In Hezekiah's reform and siege, worship renewal and courage against flesh define seeking. This passage belongs in that movement: 2 Chronicles 32:9-15 is not an isolated scrap but a step in God's unfolding purpose. Temple glory, royal reforms, prophetic rebukes, and exile's end all say: Yahweh's eyes search for whole hearts, and His Name still dwells with His people.

For life with God, Call the threat flesh and rest on God is with us. Greater is He who is in you; Emmanuel fights for His church.

If 2 Chronicles 32:9-15 feels dense—especially amid royal names, building specs, or battle reports—read it aloud slowly and ask what God is seeking. Chronicles writes for hearts that need rooted repentance and renewed worship. Let one phrase from this passage become a prayer you carry today.

Notice how 2 Chronicles 32:9-15 connects to neighboring scenes in 2 Chronicles. Temple dedication prepares seeking; reforms and declines test hearts; exile and Cyrus prove judgment and mercy. Nothing is wasted in the Chronicler's pastoral design—each block serves hope after loss.

Finally, share 2 Chronicles 32:9-15 with someone who thinks Old Testament royal chronicles are irrelevant. Warm interpretation is itself an act of love: God wrote these words to keep faith alive. Invite them to see seeking God, not filler.

Hezekiah's speech sits between reform (chs. 29–31) and Assyrian taunts (32:9-19).

2 Chronicles retells Judah's past for worship and hope, often paralleling Kings with distinctive emphasis on seeking God and the temple.

The book's later chapters intensify reform, siege, repentance, Word rediscovery, exile, and return hope.
